Entry #7 the Power of the Hashtag

The hashtag is something that everybody knows about whether you use them or not. Some hashtags have little meaning and are used to communicate with your friends and family. On the other hand hashtags have been used to do incredible things such as organizing large protests and movements and just recently helped a revolution in Egypt be successful. I personally don't use social media at all let alone the hashtag , but just because I don't use it doesn't mean I don't know about the power that they have. Social media in today world has a larger population than even China. When somebody important does a post millions of people see it and with the ability of sharing and re tweeting even more people can see it. When social media first started many people were skeptical that it would be able to accomplish anything aside from staying connected with friends and family, but it has proven time and time again that social media wields great power.
